Description: An immersive experience where we will explore water quality issues in the developing world, and the impact of these issues on public health. This course will be primarily offered in the January Intersession or during the summer, because we will travel to a developing country and conduct water quality Arts & Sciences analyses and explore the water quality issues that impact the local public and community health. Students in the class, in partnership with students from the country of interest, will have lectures, field exercises, and laboratory experiences that will help them understand how water quality monitoring is carried out. Additionally, students will have lectures from local experts that include historical, cultural, societal, and economic influences on the state of water access, water quality, and public health in the country of interest. Prerequisites: CHEM 152, CHEM 152L. An advanced laboratory course with experiments and projects that integrate principles and methods in analytical, organic, and physical chemistry, with considerable emphasis on instrumental methods. Two laboratory periods weekly. Fall semester. Prerequisites: CHEM 220, 302, 302L, and CHEM 311 (Can be taken concurrently).
